OBSE WELCOMES NEW RACE DIRECTOR!
OBSE is proud to announce that Dennis DiRaimondo has been selected as their new Race Director. Dennis comes to the Outer Banks from Greenville, PA. with a BS in Sports Management and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science. Dennis brings with him 10 years of race direction experience and 20 years’ experience as an endurance athlete. “There were many highly qualified applicants and it was a very challenging decision.” stated Lynda Wood, Executive Director of OBSE. “We are very excited to have Dennis joining our OBSE team!”
Dennis became a part of the OBSE Team the week prior to the SAGA Outer Banks Triathlon. Dennis jumped in and immediately helped stage for the event, as well as set-up and manage the event from start to finish. Dennis learned first-hand during the Triathlon about the quality and complexity of the four OBSE events; The Flying Pirate Half Marathon & First Flight 5K, Storm the Beach obstacle course, and the SAGA Outer Banks Triathlon.
You will see and meet Dennis at the race helm during the Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon weekend. “Dennis brings with him a high level of organization and intellect, a positive attitude, and a can do spirit!” stated Wood. You might also meet Dennis and his newly engaged fiancée Alicia as they are walking their St. Bernard Dodger and strolling around their new neighborhood on Roanoke Island. Dennis is quickly learning that OBSE is truly integrated into the Outer Banks community. He is impressed with all the sponsorship, volunteers and support that he has encountered since joining the OBSE Team. “The Outer Banks is a remarkable community and Alicia and I feel fortunate to begin our lives together here,” remarked DiRaimondo. Outer Banks Sporting Events is looking forward to an exciting future with its’ new Race Director Dennis as a part of the Team. Please help us welcome him into our community!

Veterans Day Weekend! November 7,8 - 9, 2014
I wanted to reach out and say thank you for a wonderful race! I participated in the Marathon and it was such an incredible experience. It was smaller than many of the races I've run recently and that's why I loved it! The volunteers were amazing from the expo through to the finish line. The course was beautiful, there was plenty of gu and water/Gatorade. I will be back and I will tell my friends about this one, thank you!!

Flying Pirate - April: LOVED the (Flying Pirate)course, food, people, and the level of organization! the pictures turned out great, and the food at the finish line was wonderful! loved the picture with the pirate at the end. Really enjoyed this race despite the pouring rain-- it was an awesome first 1/2 Marathon experience! thank you!
Really nice course. Wonderful volunteers who braved the steady rain with all the runners and walkers on Sunday. The Expo was better than we anticipated for a small race. Very pleased with the medals - they are fantastic. The visors were a nice surprise at the end. Will definitely recommend this to other runners.
..." thank YOU, and thanks to the wonderful volunteers! A great event as always. I have done quite a few half marathons over the past few years and this is, without doubt, the best organized and (perhaps more importantly) the friendliest!"
Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon -November: About the race....I have ran marathons in three other states (Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana) and for a lot of reasons (childhood including) this was by far my favorite. It was AMAZING when we went from the sandy road to the trail in the woods. By FAR my favorite part of the race. Please never take that part out. I will try to make the 24 hour round trip again for your race...it may be a couple years (wife is supposed to have guaranteed entry to NY next year???) but I will do my best!
Outer Banks Triathlon - September : I would just like to take time to commend you on an absolutely wonderful race in a gorgeous part of the country. Being from the Denver area, I have not spent much time on the East Coast, so when I found that I'd be working in Norfolk, VA for a few weeks which happened to coincided with the race, I conspired with my managers to take the weekend off, have my wife fly out and bring my bike (I'm going to be paying her back for that for quite some time!) to come down and enjoy ourselves in the Outer Banks area.
As a smaller race, it would be easy for you to not take the time to focus on the small details, but you have done just the opposite (the cold towels on the run is just one example). There were plenty of aid stations (on both the bike and run), they were well stocked and the volunteers staffing those aid stations were amazing. Check-in was a breeze! I was equally impressed with the number of safety vessels and lifeguards on the swim.
As a USAT Coach and the Coaching Director of a large Tri-Club here in the Denver Metro area, I will certainly be recommending this race to anyone who is looking for a destination race that is well managed and pays great attention to detail.
Thank you very much!
Storm the Beach - June
WOW!!!! Thanks OBSE for a spectacular Storm the Beach. When my teenager looks at me and says "I can't wait to do this again next year", then you know you have done something right!!!!!! Thanks for a great Sunday morning at the beach. Storm the Beach was the best time I have ever had while "running" and I uses that term loosely! Thanks again to OBSE and to ALL the volunteers who supported us today! You guys rock!! :)
