Really nice course. Wonderful volunteers who braved the steady rain with all the runners and walkers on Sunday. The Expo was better than we anticipated for a small race. Very pleased with the medals - they are fantastic. The visors were a nice surprise at the end. Will definitely recommend this to other runners.

Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon -November: About the race....I have ran marathons in three other states (Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana) and for a lot of reasons (childhood including) this was by far my favorite. It was AMAZING when we went from the sandy road to the trail in the woods. By FAR my favorite part of the race. Please never take that part out. I will try to make the 24 hour round trip again for your race...it may be a couple years (wife is supposed to have guaranteed entry to NY next year???) but I will do my best!
Outer Banks Triathlon - September : I would just like to take time to commend you on an absolutely wonderful race in a gorgeous part of the country. Being from the Denver area, I have not spent much time on the East Coast, so when I found that I'd be working in Norfolk, VA for a few weeks which happened to coincided with the race, I conspired with my managers to take the weekend off, have my wife fly out and bring my bike (I'm going to be paying her back for that for quite some time!) to come down and enjoy ourselves in the Outer Banks area.
As a smaller race, it would be easy for you to not take the time to focus on the small details, but you have done just the opposite (the cold towels on the run is just one example). There were plenty of aid stations (on both the bike and run), they were well stocked and the volunteers staffing those aid stations were amazing. Check-in was a breeze! I was equally impressed with the number of safety vessels and lifeguards on the swim.
As a USAT Coach and the Coaching Director of a large Tri-Club here in the Denver Metro area, I will certainly be recommending this race to anyone who is looking for a destination race that is well managed and pays great attention to detail.
